NRM partnered with Motauk Poob, a Women’s Association, to celebrate International Women’s Day. They held a significant sensitization program on women’s rights in Nakpanduri, attracting over 300 women from various backgrounds, including community leaders, chiefs, queen mothers, and security officers. The event aimed to raise awareness about women’s rights and empower participants to advocate for gender equality within their communities.

The program commenced with opening remarks from the Paramount Chief, Chief David Kansuk, who expressed his support for women’s rights and emphasized the importance of community involvement in promoting gender equality. His presence at the beginning of the event underscored the commitment of local leadership to fostering an environment where women’s voices are heard and respected.

The facilitators engaged participants from different trade areas in games and activities designed to raise awareness about women’s rights in a fun and interactive manner. These activities not only educated participa nts about their rights, but also encouraged teamwork and collaboration among women and community leaders.

Key topics discussed during the sensitization included:

  1. Understanding Women’s Rights: Participants learned about the legal frameworks that protect women’s rights.
  2. Empowerment and Leadership: The importance of women taking on leadership roles in their communities was highlighted,
  3. Violence Against Women: How to address the issue of gender-based violence and support systems for victims
  4. Community Engagement: How to engage men and boys in the fight for gender equality, among other topics.
  5. Peacebuilding in their communities: Strategies for promoting peace and resolving conflicts within their communities.

The event concluded with a call to action, encouraging participants to take the knowledge gained back to their communities and advocate for women’s rights and encourage peaceful living. The enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the attendees were a testament to the growing movement for gender equality in Nakpanduri.
